Dear LtCol Moyer:

 

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dennis Fouts. As a young Marine, I served in 1^st Composite Radio Company from 1962 until 1965, after it was re-designated as 1^st Radio Battalion at MCAS Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii. I was in the 3^rd and 5^th detachments of Sub Unit #1 sent first to Pleiku, SVN and then Phu Bai, SVN in 1962 and 1963. 1^st. Composite Radio Company has the proud distinction of being the first Marine “boots” on the ground in Vietnam. A storyboard at the new Marine Corps Museum acknowledges this fact, and we are proud of those accomplishments.

I am providing you with the only known photograph of the original members of 1^st Composite Radio Company to use as you see fit as a part of the history of 1^st Radio Battalion. Additionally, I am enclosing a few patches of 1stCompRadCo. I do not believe you have a copy of the 1^st Radio Company patch on your great website. I do not have an actual patch, but I do have a photocopy if you wish to add it.

Much has changed in the mission of 1^st Radio from the days I served 40+ years ago, but the espirit remains the same. I wish you and your men and women God Speed and a safe journey in your careers, and Thank You for your service.
