LETTER FROM DENNIS FOUTS TO COMMANDING OFFICER, 1STRADBN AND HIS REPLY.

 Dennis A. Fouts
St. Louis, MO 63129-3301
June 23, 2009

LtCol Andrew J. Moyer
Commanding Officer
1st. Radio Battalion
Box 555355
Camp Pendleton, CA 92055

Dear LtCol Moyer:

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dennis Fouts. As a young Marine, I served in 1st Composite Radio Company from 1962 until 1965, after it was re-designated as 1st Radio Battalion at MCAS Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii. I was in the 3rd and 5th detachments of Sub Unit #1 sent first to Pleiku, SVN and then Phu Bai, SVN in 1962 and 1963. 1st. Composite Radio Company has the proud distinction of being the first Marine “boots” on the ground in Vietnam. A storyboard at the new Marine Corps Museum acknowledges this fact, and we are proud of those accomplishments.

I am providing you with the only known photograph of the original members of 1st Composite Radio Company to use as you see fit as a part of the history of 1st Radio Battalion. Additionally, I am enclosing a few patches of 1stCompRadCo. I do not believe you have a copy of the 1st Radio Company patch on your great website. I do not have an actual patch, but I do have a photocopy if you wish to add it.

Much has changed in the mission of 1st Radio from the days I served 40+ years ago, but the espirit remains the same. I wish you and your men and women God Speed and a safe journey in your careers, and Thank You for your service.

Semper Fi,
